DRIVE ANGRY 3D Movie Review

Well it seems like a lot of movies as of late that I have watched star Nicholas Cage. I watched Season of the Witch not too long ago and just last night I got the chance to watch Drive Angry 3D, a movie that I was very much looking forward to seeing. I was a little let down but that could be due to the anticipation that I had built up and the interviews that I had watched leading me to believe that this movie was going to be a huge hit.

The movie is about a felon that escapes from hell to kill a cult leader that murdered his daughter and stole his grand-daughter to be sacrificed in a Satanic ritual. While looking for Jonah King he meets a young lady named Piper that is going through trying times with work and her boyfriend. Milton befriends her and decides to take care of her so he brings her with him. The two fight through many obstacles on the way and end up killing many of people. They eventually meet up with King and that's where I will end it. You have to watch the movie to find out what happens.

In an interview with Nicholas Cage there is mention that most of the scenes in the movie were created specifically for 3D. There were a ton of great 3D moments but the action was way too far fetched. What is it with all these movies now days that have big trucks just flippin over cars? C'mon people give us something a bit more realistic. I get that it's the movies but sometimes going too far adds to the cheese factor. And as if one shot to the gutt is going to make you fly like Superman through a window. Don't get me wrong, I did think some of the scenes were pretty kick ass, it was just the few that made me think "Uh huh as if".

As for the actors performances I must say that Nicholas Cage is not the one that took the spotlight for me in this flick. I felt that 'The Accountant' played by William Fitchner (known widely for his role in the TV series Prison Break) and 'Piper' played by Amber Heard where far better played then that of Cage's character 'Milton'. Amber played her role with total conviction, man that chick packs a mean punch! It sucks that while watching a film you can see an actor playing a way too similar role from one of their previous movies. In this case I felt like I was watching Cage when he played Johnny Blaze in Ghost Rider.

You get what you would expect from the $50,000,000 budget that they used to make the film. Now like I said previously, some of the action scenes are way over the top and leave you saying "Yeah right, like that would ever happen!" Focusing so much on the 3D effects took away from the movie in my opinion. I am still on the fence with this one, I think that if you just skim through it to all the action scenes when it comes out on DVD you should be o.k. I would have rather watched Ghost Rider again instead.
