SUCKER PUNCH Movie Review

Samurai, katana wielding blonde schoolgirls in heels, World War I steam powered Nazi zombies, Hello Kitty style Mechassault robots, Medieval castle wars and dragons chasing warplanes, alien planet cowboy train robbers and Go-go dancing performing prostitutes. If you ever thought while reading these things that they couldn't all possibly be put into one movie, you're dead wrong.

"Sucker Punch", directed by "300" director Zack Snyder, is the story of a young girl who is sent to a mental asylum after she accidentally kills her little sister, trying to defend her from their sexually abusive stepfather. That is about as far as I can take you on this plot, and after that, it's really just a plethora of some of the most bizarre fantasies created by a girl trying to escape from her very dark reality.

After leaving the theater, I couldn't tell you how I felt about this movie. The plot is disjointed and confusing, the acting and the characters are fairly shallow and unimpressive, and the overall main plot of the tortured young heroine doesn't ever pull you in. Yet at the same time, I was thoroughly entertained. As my partner put it, it's like watching Zack Snyder masturbating his creativity all over the screen, and you're not sure if you like it or not. In any case, if you're a fan of anything video game, fantasy, anime, shoot 'em up, thriller or war related, you'll probably find something in this movie to enjoy. It also incorporates every genre of music you can imagine: Classical, Heavy Metal, Electronic, Pop, etc. If you go see it, you should either see it in theaters or on an impressive home theater system, because when all else fails, this movie is like a sensory overload to your brain.
