HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN Movie Review

I have to start off by saying GO SEE THIS FRIKIN MOVIE!!! Why? Well, it has the whole nostalgic feel, it's violent, gory, funny, has a storyline that we can all relate to and it's one hell of a bad ass flick. It had me wondering what was going to happen next the whole time and had tons of moments when I felt a bit skirmish. Hobo with a shotgun started off as a fake trailer in the 2007 Grindhouse double feature along with Machete that also became a movie on its own.

It starts off with the hobo (Rutger Hauer) arriving into Hopetown by train. The town is on the fritz and disorderly because of it's self proclaimed ambassador Drake and his off-springs Ivan and Slick. It's a town where prostitutes get knocked around daily, bums get paid to do awful things on video then get badly beaten and there's even a guy that drives around in a Santa Claus suit molesting kids. Let's just say that anything that could be corrupt in this town is. That is until the Hobo sees enough and takes matters into his own hands. Rather then buying himself the lawnmower that he wanted so badly he picks up the shotgun and like the tagline of the movie says he starts "delivering justice one shell at a time".

If you are a fan of the Trailer Park Boys you'll be happy to see Ricky (Rob Wells) who plays Drake's brother in the beginning of the movie. You'll see him like never before, I could tell you what goes on here because it's truly awesome but I wouldn't want to ruin it for you. So I'll zip my lip. There is also another pretty popular Canadian that shows up in the movie George Stroumboulopoulos. He plays a news reporter that ends up getting the cut in a funny kind of way.

The end credits made me laugh too because at first I was embarrassed to say I thought I knew the song and it turned out I was right. It was a shocker that they had this particular song considering it was the theme of one of my fave childhood shows. You'll have to watch the whole movie to find out what it was.

The movie was filmed in Halifax, Nova Scotia with indy director Jason Eisener who claimed to have taken money from his own pocket to see this movie come out. It is important for us as movie goers to support indy film makers. So, if you didn't make it out to see the movie in theaters for whatever reasons please make sure to support the directors and producers by buying their movies when they come out on dvd or bluray. I really enjoyed this movie as you can see and would suggest that everyone go out and see it!
