THOR Movie Review
Being the comic buff that I am it should come as no surprise that I had been anticipating this movie for quite some time. The 'comic book' based movie franchise has been so hyped up with Spider-man, X:Men and Batman in the past that finally some of the other great superheroes are getting some time in the spotlight. I haven't been disappointed in a while with the latest movies that have been coming out such as Green Lantern, Iron Man 1&2, Captain America, etc. OOOps big mistake there, I was not a fan of any Hulk movies. Now the idea of seeing Thor in theaters in 3D didn't appeal to me so much, so I decided to wait until it came out on Bluray Disk so that I could watch it in High Definition and Surround Sound. It's really a win win because I get to keep the movie for the price that I would have watched it anyway!
O.K. so on with the movie review. The movie starts off by typically getting the viewers up to date on who the characters are and how they came to be. Yada yada. We come to find that Thor is an arrogant guy whose ego truly surpasses him. After getting in shit for something that he had done (can't tell ya! just remember i mentioned the frost giants) and giving attitude to his father Odin (played by Anthony Hopkins) he gets banished from Asgard and is sent to Earth to learn humility and to become a better person. While on Earth he meets a group of scientists and develops a love interest with Natalie Portman's character Jane Foster. So here we have a mighty warrior cast to Earth looking for a hammer and wanting to return home. While Thor finds himself defending Earth from Destroyer, his brother Loki, who is a bit of a douche, is back home causing his own kind of havoc. That's pretty much the base of the story for this movie with a few added fight scenes and some comic relief here and there.
Chris Hemsworth (who plays Thor) was definitely something to look at, a little bit of eye candy if you will for the ladies. So guys when it comes to 'comic book' based movies it helps to point the lead actors out to your girlfriends if you want to gain their interest in going with you to see the film. Good news is that Chris will be reprising his role as the God of Thunder in The Avengers coming to theaters in the spring of 2012. He will also star in an upcoming film with Twilight's Kristen Stewart entitled Snow White and the Huntsman. You can bet that I will be marking those release dates on my calendar.
In a nut shell, I rather enjoyed the movie and have no buyers remorse what so ever. There are of course some things that I would have loved to see more or less of in the film. I wish there would have been more action and fight scenes. The best fight scene in my opinion was in the beginning with the frost giants. The 'climatic' fight scene on earth was suppose to be the one with the Destroyer, however I found it boring and uninteresting to me if I must be honest. The better fight on Earth is when he fights the guys who are guarding the hammer. I also found that there was a lack of chemistry between Jane and Thor in the movie. Stan Lee makes a really short appearance in the film as a truck driver near the location where Thor's hammer lands on Earth.
If you are in to the whole comic book movie genre craze then it's worth your buck to own. This sci-fi meets viking movie has landed its way on to my movie shelf and will be watched a few more times no doubt. Be sure to check out the Easter Egg scene after the credits when you bring the movie home!
