BEER CORPSE - Keg Nuts CD Review
ARTIST: Beer Corpse
TITLE: Keg Nuts
YEAR: 2011
LABEL: Give Praise
REVIEWED BY: Caroline Restiaux
For those of you who aren't familiar with Beer Corpse, they are an Australian thrash/grincore band. The band gives everything you would want from a grindcore outfit right down to their cover art.
When it comes to grindcore you usually expect an album that doesn't focus on the quality of production. Levels are sometimes all over the place, vocals get lost and drowned out (as is the case with this release) but they can also be right there in your face covering up the music in the background. With the album 'Keg Nuts' there is a shit ton of brutality, blastbeats and guitar breaks a plenty. It really is a pulverizing 11 minutes of music.
I have never been a big fan of grindcore but appreciate the way that Beer Corpse create their sound. I enjoyed the Side B tracks far more than Side A because of the thrashier elements they included in those tracks. My fave tunes on the album, or should I say the ones that I enjoyed the most were 'Rot Gut' and 'King Brown' which are also the longest two songs on the release.
Sadly enough it's 11 minutes of my life that I can never get back but who's to say that you won't have a difference in opinion. The band is on the right track however releasing 500 copies on black vinyl and 100 on clear. They said that they are currently only selling the black ones which come with a 10" poster. So like I said, this wasn't my cup of tea but don't knock it just because I don't like it!
