You never really know what to expect when you sit down to review a new cd of a band that you have yet to listen to. I had never heard of the band Heart-Set Self-Destruct before so decided to give em a go. They are not anything that I would typically listen to but that's only because I tend to lean to heavier music. There was a point in my life when I would have listened to this band along with Three Days Grace, Finger Eleven, Good Charlotte and even Taproot. Not so much anymore, but to break a chain of habit I decided to review the album.
To my surprise I found the music to be quite mainstream and thought them to be very marketable in the whole pop-rock market. Their melodic hooks are extremely catchy and deserve much credit. Although the lyrics are not anything spectacular they are easily relate-able. The songs are quite similar and don't offer too much change but it works if you like these kind of songs or bands.
I can see a growing fan base with many young girls screaming out for these guys. They not only have a marketable sound they have an extremely marketable image. They are quite pleasing to the eye. I see them going places! I found the cd to be worth the listen and would revisit it again in order to relax a bit from heavy riffage and over the top growling vocals. If you are not at all into modern rock then this definitely won't be up your alley. Give them a listen if you like Taproot or Three Days Grace you won't be disappointed!
