MORBID ANGEL - Illud Divinum Insanus CD Review
ARTIST: Morbid Angel

REVIEWED BY: Liz Anderson
Morbid Angel is by no question one of the most prominent pioneers of death metal. Starting back in 1987 the band still continues proves they damn well have what it takes to keep up their reputation (along with other bands of there legendary status). From their last release back in 2003 entitled 'Heretic', the band had pretty much disappeared and rendered as one of the original pioneers of death metal, that was also influential in the transition of Death Metal from its roots; as well as one of the first bands to have a touch of mainstream success. When I came across this new album by Morbid Angel I was extremely excited to give this album a listen considering the world hasn’t heard anything from Morbid Angel since 2003 and their 1995 album 'Domination' being one of my favorites (highly recommended for any death metal fans out there who haven’t heard this album, to go give it a listen ASAP!).
Being one of the very first initial bands of Death Metal, this album is everything you would expect coming from such a raw and original source. Listening to this album, you can more easily pin point the original influences that gave birth to the ever growing Death Metal culture. This album is so pure and original, that absolutely no other band could ever pull of the exact same sound. On March 18, 2010, the band announced that Tim Yeung would play drums on this upcoming album, that way Pete Sandoval to recover from back surgery. This had in fact influenced the sound a bit giving it a bit more of an industrial sound similar to Rammstein , and the old Marilyn Manson, combined with some good old Cannibal Corpse. Track # 10 'Radikult' strongly reminded me of something I would hear on the album 'Least We Forget' by Marilyn Manson. Regardless, this album is original, brutal and innovative. The quality composition and sound comes along the line to their ground breaking debut album 'Domination' with a hint of 'Gateways to Annihilation' scattered through out this record. Overall this album is a must have, and absolutely anyone who dares claim to be a metal head needs to give this album a listen.
